Report: in 2026, the Apple Watch Ultra will get a 10 per cent larger display and switch to MicroLED technology
According to Taiwanese research firm TrendForce, the Apple Watch Ultra smart watch will switch to a MicroLED display in a few years.
Here's What We Know
Earlier reports also talked about the transition to MicroLED technology. However, those reports mentioned 2025, while TrendForce reports that the MicroLED display won't appear in the Apple Watch Ultra until 2026.
It's estimated that the MicroLED panel will cost 2-3 times more than the equivalent OLED display used in the current model. It will be supplied by German company OSRAM and South Korea's LG Display.
In addition, the size of the display will be increased by 10%. That is, if the current models have a display diagonal of 1.93 inches, the Apple Watch Ultra 2026 will increase to about 2.12 inches.
By the way, Apple has been working on a special MicroLED display technology for almost 10 years. Such a display will provide improved brightness, colour reproduction, dynamic range, viewing angles and efficiency.
