The Chinese man stole the base station chips for $45,000, sold them for $900 and spent all the money on gambling
Guangzhou provincial police have detained a man who was stealing chips from base stations.
What we know
The incident took place almost a month ago. On July 7, a telecommunications company reported that base stations were damaged, resulting in the loss of communications throughout the area. An investigation determined that the cause was the loss of eight chips from the base stations.
The Police held their own investigation, which led them to the suspect. The suspect turned out to be a man named Wu Moumou. He stole chips from base stations worth $45,000 and sold them for $900, 50 times less than the real price.
The thief told the police that he had learned how the base stations worked at his previous place of work. He spent $900 on gambling. The court has not yet decided on a measure of restraint.
