Last week, a US Arleigh Burke-class destroyer intercepted several missiles and drones in the Red Sea. As it turned out, the USS Carney (DDG 64) shot down aerial threats for 9 hours.

Here's What We Know

The US warship used SM-2 missile interceptors to suppress enemy targets. It was initially reported that USS Carney (DDG 64) was able to destroy three missiles and "several drones". It was later reported that the ship shot down eight UAVs.

According to the new information, the incident lasted for nine hours. During this time, the USS Carney (DDG 64) was able to intercept four cruise missiles and 15 drones at once. Such data is voiced by CNN, citing a U.S. official familiar with the situation. The flight altitude of some missiles posed a potential danger to commercial aviation.

The missiles and drones were launched from Yemen by the Houthis, who are backed by Iran. In October 2016, the USS Mason repelled an attack in the Red Sea. At the time, the missiles targeted a US Navy destroyer and other ships. In response, cruise missiles were fired that hit the radars of the Houthis in Yemen.
