Microsoft integrates Teams into Xbox Game Bar to allow players to stream their gameplay to friends

Microsoft has started to make changes to the Xbox gaming platform by adding the Teams feature, which allows players to broadcast their gameplay to friends through the service.

Here's What We Know

The feature is called Microsoft Teams Play Together. It allows players to not only spend time together watching and playing, but also stream their desktop screen through Teams. In addition, players can easily join video calls to see their friends appear on the screen while playing. The company is positioning the integration as a way to spend time together, playing and interacting, which is generally similar to Discord.

However, the integration currently has several limitations. During the testing, an editor of The Verge managed to launch a stream of Shadow of the Tomb Raider gameplay. While the image quality was acceptable, the stream was largely running at 30 frames per second or lower, which may not be quite what gaming content requires. During testing, it was also not possible to watch the participants in video calls that appear on top of the video. This feature is likely to be further developed.

While Microsoft Teams Play Together may be a nice addition for some, we have to admit that at this stage, the service is definitely not a replacement for Discord.
