RPG mode for Assassin's Creed Valhalla to be launched on August 2

Content support for Assassin's Creed Valhalla has lasted about two years. During this time, the game has received many updates and additions. The list of additions will soon include Forgotten Saga, a free roguelite-like adventure mode.

Since the franchise hasn't faced a roguelike before, Ubisoft has walked through the main nuances of the novelty. Its main character will once again be Odin. He heads to Niflheim to defy fate and defeat Hel, ruler of the world of the dead.

We've gathered the highlights from the developers' story below:

  • Niflheim is divided into four areas, each with secret locations. The hiding places hold upgrades - once Odin discovers them and overcomes the guards, the buffs stay with him in all subsequent races.
  • The hiding places also hide merchants ready to exchange the coins found in the vastness of Niflheim for equipment, runes, and abilities.

  • One must rely only on items obtained in the lands of the Underworld, as access to the armor on Avor's adventures is closed.
  • Each of the costumes prepared for Forgotten Saga is sharpened for specific situations and gameplay. Some are designed for stealth, while others enhance long-range attacks.
  • Armor will not disappear from the inventory because of another attempt to get to Hel, but the weapons will change. If you pick up someone else's sword in the middle of a run, for example, all the accumulated weapons will be destroyed.
  • The mode offers a branching walkthrough approach - the player will be able to choose the sequence of visiting locations independently. However, you will not be able to go back.
  • Before each race it is necessary to decide on the equipment and blessings.
  • With each death there is a chance to meet a familiar hero who will try to discourage Odin from his idea.
  • There are also side quests with interesting rewards. Some of the quests can't be completed in one try, so you'll have to die once or twice.

Forgotten Saga will appear in Assassin's Creed Valhalla next week - August 2. The developers specified the release date in the comments under the video. The mode will be available to all owners of the game for free. Ubisoft plans to tell more about the future of the Assassin series on September 10 on Ubisoft Forward.
