Tesco, a large supermarket chain in the UK, has announced that it will no longer sell physical copies of games in its 2800 stores.

Now Tesco wants to sell all remaining physical copies of games and no longer allocate shelves for them. The only exceptions will be vouchers to top up wallets in digital stores and currency in games.

Tesco explained that most gamers nowadays prefer games in digital form to discs. In May, GameStop closed all its 35 stores in Ireland. The reason is similar to Tesco's.

GamesIndustry also noted that in the UK, less than 18% of the four big games of June - Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 16, Street Fighter 6, and F1 23 - were sold on discs.

And if we remember that Remedy refused to release Alan Wake 2 on discs, and Xbox and PlayStation released versions of their consoles without discs, it becomes obvious that one day the vast majority of games will be only in digital form.
