"Saw X" director, Kevin Greutert, promises viewers plenty of surprises in the new chapter of this famous franchise and implies that this is far from the last instalment
Exclusive: The director of 'Saw X' talked about the future of the popular film franchise and hints that he has no plans to stop with this instalment.
Here's What We Know
"There’s no obvious new direction to go after this film"- says Kevin Greutert to SFX Magazine. "But I think there probably will be more Saw movies, particularly if this one is successful."
Greutert (director of "Saw VI," "Saw VII") is directing "Saw X" from a script by Peter Goldfinger ("Saw: Puzzle," "Spiral") and Josh Stolberg.
The new film is set between the events of the first and second parts of "Saw". In it, we see a sick and desperate John Kramer (Tobin Bell) travelling to Mexico for a risky experimental surgery in the hope of a miracle cure for cancer, but he discovers that the whole process is a scam designed to fool the most vulnerable. John goes into full "Saw" mode and puts the crooks to their insanely twisted test.
The cast includes Synnove Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach, Renata Vaca, Paulette Hernandez, Joshua Okamoto and Octavio Hinojosa, with Shawnee Smith returning as Amanda Young.
The director doesn't reveal whether other characters from the series will appear in the film, but hints at "surprises". It's also clear that "Saw X" is more likely to be something of a conclusion to the story, "leaning more on the past," as Greutert said, rather than sowing seeds for the future.
"I truly believe that this is the most standalone Saw film since the first one,"- says the director. "It’s not about knowing or remembering anything about the previous films. It’s a richer experience if you know about Saw because otherwise you won’t necessarily know who Amanda is when she appears, but it’s very clear from the beginning what’s happening."
"Saw X" hits the big screens on 29 September.
