Legends return: according to information from director Shawn Levy, "Deadpool 3" is set to feature sensational Marvel characters from Fox cameo
More and more rumours are being linked to the fact that Deadpool 3 will bring a slew of Marvel characters from Fox's Marvel Cinematic Universe, and new details add even more intrigue.
Here's What We Know
Director Shawn Levy spoke to Slash Film about the impact of Fox's Marvel legacy on Deadpool 3 plot. Levy emphasises that simply including Deadpool 3 in the MCU film universe does not imply "suddenly that Fox legacy doesn't exist", because "it shaped a lot of what we now know as the MCU". Concluding the discussion on the importance of Fox's Marvel legacy to his film within the MCU, the Deadpool 3 director noted: "certainly that's a part of our storytelling", which pleases fans anticipating possible cameos in Deadpool 3.
"And Deadpool and Wolverine are iconic Marvel characters; more specifically, iconic Marvel-of-the-Fox-era characters. We're not going to pretend: 'Oh, we snap our fingers, and suddenly that Fox legacy doesn't exist, and it shaped a lot of what we now know as the MCU.' Fox also shaped Ryan's career, Hugh's career and my career. So there's a lot of history there, and there's a lot of Marvel history at Fox. And certainly that's a part of our storytelling."
The cast of Deadpool 3 already features exciting characters including Deadpool Ryan Reynolds and Wolverine Hugh Jackman, who are major figures in the franchise. Also in the line-up are the stars of the previous two Deadpool films and the returning Elektra, played by Jennifer Garner.
The Deadpool 3 director recently made a comment on the rumoured cameo, saying: "some of those rumors are true, and some of them aren't". Based on Levy's words, at least a few of Fox's Marvel characters being discussed for roles in Deadpool 3, such as James Marsden's Cyclops and Famke Janssen's Jean Grey, are expected to make an appearance after years of absence.
Deadpool 3 will likely feature the adventures of Deadpool and Wolverine, which Reynolds has previously talked about. The film will give us a glimpse into the lives of characters from Tim Story's Fantastic Four films, both X-Men timelines, and more.
With the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga in 2027, culminating in Avengers: Secret Wars, Deadpool 3 will be able to honour Fox's Marvel legacy by not only offering a new vision of beloved franchises, but also making them relevant within the MCU.
When We Can Expect It
Deadpool 3 will be released on May 3, 2024.
