Netflix platform deletes all parts of 'Hunger Games' just before the new film is released

For all those who were hoping to use Netflix to refresh their memories of "Hunger Games" before the upcoming prequel "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes", the streaming service removed all the films from its platform today.

Here's What We Know

All four films starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson as tributes turned revolutionaries - The Hunger Games (2012), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015) - are now unavailable for streaming.

This is because Netflix decided not to renew its contract with distributor Epix, thus "sentencing" thousands of films from its catalogue.

It is believed in the market that the reason for Netflix's refusal was the lack of exclusive rights to content from Epix, as the distributor decided to retain the option to sell rights to cable and terrestrial TV channels. Netflix representatives, on the other hand, said in a comment that they wanted to focus on producing their own content rather than adding to their catalogue.

After Netflix refused to cooperate with Epix, streaming service Hulu did not miss its chance and quickly concluded a deal with this distributor.

As a reminder, "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" hits the big screen on November 17.
