Zack Snyder has revealed that the 'Army Of The Dead' films and the upcoming 'Rebel Moon' are connected by a shared universe

In a recent interview, director Zack Snyder reveals that his upcoming film Rebel Moon is connected to his zombie films on Netflix.

Here's What We Know

It turns out that "Rebel Moon" is in a shared universe with "Army Of The Dead."

"Army of the Dead has a pretty vast mythology that never made it into the movie." - says Snyder. "There’s actually a character from Rebel Moon in the Army of the Dead animated series that we never did."

Zack Snyder's "Army of the Dead" film series kicked off in 2021 with the release of a film called "Army of the Dead" starring Dave Bautista and Ella Purnell. The film is set in a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, populated by zombies. A few months later, a sequel was released called Army of Thieves. The animated series that Snyder mentions, called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, was supposed to be released on Netflix right after the first two films, but was never completed. "It is in this unfinished series that there are scenes of overlap with the plot of 'Rebel Moon.'

"At one point in the show, they go through a portal into another dimension, and there are characters in that other dimension that they come across." - Snyder explains. "In Rebel Moon, they’re in this bar, and one of the aliens is one of the characters from the animatic. So it’s definitely a shared universe."

Rebel Moon is set in a galaxy far, far away, with The Gentlemen's Charlie Hunnam and The Mummy's Sofia Boutella in the lead roles. The film's plot follows a young girl with a mysterious past who has to raise an army to stand up to the tyrannical forces threatening her home and community.

When We Can Expect It

The first part of Rebel Moon is released on Netflix on December 22, 2023, with the second part to follow shortly after, in April 2024.
