Mortal Kombat 2 update: The film's producer, Todd Garner, hints that filming may begin sooner than expected
Todd Garner discussed the current status of Mortal Kombat 2, responding to a DiscussingFilm tweet that suggested filming would begin in "early 2024." However, Garner stated that this is not the case and filming will begin sooner.
Here's What We Know
According to Garner, work on the sequel may start earlier than expected given that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over.

While Garner did not provide specific information about the start of filming, he stated in a tweet posted shortly before that he would "let us know as soon as they start filming." Given that Garner has always been eager to share information about the Mortal Kombat filming process, there's no reason not to believe him.
In a follow-up tweet, Garner reiterated his plans to keep fans informed when actual information becomes available and said that everyone else is just speculating or "posting for attention." So, for now, let's limit ourselves to the stated timeframe of "until early 2024."
Before the SAG-AFTRA strike began, information about various casting choices and other aspects of Mortal Kombat 2 surfaced. One update informed Mortal Kombat fans that Tati Gabrielle is in the final stages of negotiations for the role of Jade, one of the original Mortal Kombat characters that has grown in popularity over time.
In another major update, it was reported that Karl Urban, who recently gained fame for his role in The Boys, has been cast to play Johnny Cage, a character who was absent from the first film.
