George R.R. Martin announces a new wave of Game of Thrones spin-offs: as many as eight new shows, one of which is already in production
It is known that George R.R. Martin has always had plans for additional Game of Thrones spin-offs, and apparently it is becoming a reality. The writer announced that he is developing not two or even three, but eight spin-offs at once, and one of them has already received official approval from HBO.
Here's What We Know
According to IGN, the writer made the announcement at Festival Bang, where he was talking about his upcoming novel "The Winds of Winter."
"In television, we have the new show, House of the Dragon, which has just finished filming its second season, and we're going to be planning for the third season soon" Martin said, adding: "But I also have like eight other spin-off shows that we're developing. The Dunk and Egg show has been greenlit. The others, not yet, but we're still working on them.".
Approval has been granted for a TV series called "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight", based on Martin's "Tales of Dunk and Egg" series, which includes three stories, "The Hedge Knight", "The Sworn Sword" and "The Mystery Knight."
The events are set 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follow two men named Dunk, a mercenary knight who eventually becomes Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and Egg, Dunk's handmaiden who will one day become the ruler of Westeros, King Egon V Targaryen.
Martin has not confirmed which of his other stories will be the basis for the seven remaining spin-offs, but by far the most anticipated is a series about Jon Snow's fate.
