"Napoleon" was Ridley Scott's most successful launch in 13 years
Ridley Scott's historical epic, "Napoleon," will deliver the best opening weekend in 13 years.
Here's What We Know
According to Deadline, the film, with a $130 million budget and $78 million in total revenue, is expected to bring in $32-33 million over the Thanksgiving weekend.
That will offset the weak theatrical results of his last historical drama, The Last Duel (2021), which earned $30 million on a $100 million budget. Scott's last historical film to achieve similar profitable numbers as Napoleon was "Robin Hood" (2010) starring Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett and Oscar Isaac.
Recall that the success of "Napoleon" did not do without criticism. French journalists accused Scott of creating a "clumsy" and "anti-French" film. The director was also criticised for historical inaccuracies. But, the 85-year-old director is known for his love of fighting critics and the press over his films, so he simply replied that the French don't even like themselves.
The squabble between Scott and journalists can be followed forever, but far more intriguing is the upcoming sequel to his Oscar-winning historical drama "Gladiator." 'Gladiator 2' will star Russell Crowe, Paul Mescal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou and Denzel Washington and will premiere on 22 November 2024.
