"Our deal is …. Done. Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster Productions have officially joined forces. The preeminent homes for horror are now under one roof". - Blum wrote.
The Blumhouse/Universal and Atomic Monster merger represents an alliance between an influential horror film producer in Bloom and a creative genius who generates ideas for horror films - James Wan - that they both emphasised when they first announced the merger.
"I don't have one idea to turn into a horror movie" Bloom said at the time. "Not one. I built a business by recognizing great ideas from other people.".
Wan, on the other hand, stated: "I have so many ideas – so many ideas – more than I can handle by myself...It really allows me a bigger canvas to paint on, if you will. Universal is very supportive of filmmakers and brilliant at marketing. To have partners that trust you, that believe in you, that goes a long way.".
In addition to film production, Blumhouse/Atomic Monster have expressed their intention to develop horror content in a variety of areas, including video games, podcast creation, live events and possibly merchandising releases.
That the collaboration between the two giants is indeed fruitful can be gauged from their work together on the hit 2023 horror-comedy M3GAN, for which a sequel, M3GAN 2.0, is already in development.
Also, Blumhouse/Atomic Monsters will kick off 2024 with the premiere of Night Swim, a PG-13-rated horror film that hits the big screens the first weekend of January.
