Turkey begins integration of ATMACA anti-ship missiles with a maximum launch range of 250 kilometres on Barbados project frigates to replace the US Harpoon

The Turkish Navy has started work on equipping frigates with anti-ship missiles. The process will drag on for several years.

Here's What We Know

Turkey intends to arm the Barbados project frigates with ATMACA anti-ship missiles. The integration will last until 2027. The appearance of ATMACA will allow the Turkish Navy to refuse imports of foreign anti-ship missiles.

The ATMACA will be carried by 11 frigates. The maximum launch range is approximately 250 kilometres. Currently, Turkish frigates of the Barbados project are armed with American Harpoon anti-ship missiles.

The development of ATMACA began almost 15 years ago, but the first sea tests did not take place until 2019. During the tests, the TCG Kinaliada frigate was able to successfully launch an anti-ship missile and destroy the target.
