Does anyone actually watch their subscribed channels anymore? Sub feed cemetery

Just did a sanity check on my YouTube account - I'm subscribed to 376 channels but regularly watch maybe 8-10. Scrolling through my list was like touring a museum of forgotten interests. Channels I haven't clicked in years, creators who don't even post anymore, dead accounts from people who quit the platform in 2019... it's digital hoarding at this point.

What's the longest you've stayed loyal to a creator? Do you regularly clean out your subscriptions or let them pile up like me? Any channels that survived the test of time from when you first started using YouTube? Starting to wonder if maintaining subscriptions is even a thing people do anymore or if everyone just lets the algorithm pick what to watch

Loyalty completely tied to authenticity for me. Creators who stay genuine keep my sub, those who change persona to chase trends get immediate boot. Can literally feel exact moment someone starts creating for algorithm instead of audience. Unwatchable after that point

Still subscribed to primitive technology since 2016! Dude barely uploads but quality never drops. Same with kurzgesagt and cgp grey. Common thread? Consistent style, minimal ads, zero drama. Channels i unsubscribe from usually ramp up marketing/sponsorships beyond reasonable levels

Algorithm killed my watch habits more than creators. Used to loyally follow specific channels, now just consume whatever feed recommends. Honestly couldn't name five creators i regularly watch despite spending hours daily on platform. Content becoming increasingly anonymous/interchangeable

The 3-year cycle is REAL. My girlfriend and I independently noticed this pattern with completely different channels. Initial discovery → honeymoon phase → comfortable routine → sudden inexplicable irritation → unsubscribe. Something psychological happening around that timeframe

my 16yo daughter says I'm "aging myself" by even using subscriptions. direct quote: "YouTube is millennial Facebook, dad." apparently gen z just uses search or lets algorithm suggest content. concept of following specific creators supposedly outdated. feel ancient at 38

Gamer channels survive longest for me. Watching someone's skill develop over years strangely satisfying. Still following speedrunners from 2014 despite completely different content than original videos

speedrun communities uniquely wholesome too. Most gaming channels toxic af but watching world record progression feels like celebrating collective achievement. Rare positive internet space

Platform's recommendation engine leverages hedonic adaptation to constantly provide novel content, effectively training viewers toward shorter attention spans and decreased channel loyalty over time. Platform benefits from viewer promiscuity while creators suffer
