Scientists have discovered two earth-like planets that could potentially be suitable for life

Researchers were able to discover two exoplanets that may be suitable for life. They orbit the star GJ 1002.

Here's What We Know

GJ 1002 is a red dwarf that is 16 light years away from the solar system. Scientists have been observing the star for several years, using CERMENES instruments (2017-2019) and ESPRESSO (2019-2021).

After analyzing the data collected over 5 years, the experts concluded that the planets GJ 1002b and GJ 1002c orbit the star with a period of about 10 and 21 days, respectively. The first planet is closer to the red dwarf. The close proximity to the star is not threatening, since GJ 1002 has a mass of only one-eighth the mass of the Sun.

The next step will be to analyze the atmospheres on the planets GJ 1002b and GJ 1002c. But the scientists will be able to proceed to it only after the beginning of the Extremely Large Telescope, equipped with a 40-meter mirror and a sensitive spectrograph ANDES, that is, not until 2030.
