Universal Pictures has announced the release date of a new animated film created by DreamWorks Animation called The Forgotten Island - the cartoon will appear on the big screens on 25 September 2026.

Here's What We Know

Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado will share the director's chair and the script. The film will be produced by Mark Swift.

Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but it is known that the animated film will be a "comedy adventure party that takes the main characters to a long-forgotten, magical island rooted in Filipino mythology".

The Forgotten Island will be the first full-fledged directorial effort for Mercado, who previously co-directed the hit film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

In Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Crawford took the animation of the Shrek spin-off to a new level, experimenting with a style he described as visible brush strokes that give the impression of moving painting.

DreamWorks Animation's most recent animated release was Wild Robot, which received three Academy Award nominations and nine Annie Awards.
