The British company Spacebit, founded by Ukrainian Pavlo Tanasyuk, will send a map and a flag of Ukraine to the Moon.

Here's What We Know

Spacebit is preparing to launch the first Ukrainian mission to the Moon. It was originally scheduled for 2022, but was later postponed to the fourth quarter of 2023 due to thorough preparatory work by leading experts from United Launch Alliance (ULA). As part of this mission, a map and flag of Ukraine will be sent to the Moon on a Vulcan Centaur rocket.

Both the map and the flag are made on a plate manufactured at one of Ukroboronprom's plants in Kyiv. The plate is made of aluminium and coated with gold. When drawing the contours of the map and flag, specialists used titanium-based paint. In general, the process is similar to the technology used for the gold plate of Voyager, which was sent into space in 1977.

"By sending the flag and map of Ukraine to the Moon, I want to honour the indestructible spirit of my native land. This mission, like the flag, is a symbol of the Ukrainian people's faith in their future, regardless of external challenges," Tanasyuk said.
