Israel wants access to Starlink satellite internet in areas bordering the Gaza Strip

Ahead of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip, Israeli authorities want to provide a backup way to access the Internet in case other systems fail. The government is in talks with SpaceX to do so.

Here's What We Know

The US aerospace company activated Starlink in Ukraine in early 2022. Israel wants SpaceX to provide uninterrupted access to Starlink satellite internet in areas that border the Gaza Strip.

Israel's communications ministry intends to close Al-Jazeera's offices. According to a spokesman for the ministry, the Qatari news network is being used for Hamas propaganda and is damaging national security. In addition, the Israeli authorities are ready to disconnect telephone services and the Internet in the Gaza Strip.
