AMD will create a special AI chip for China to enforce export controls

AMD is considering developing an artificial intelligence chip specifically for the Chinese market to comply with US export restrictions.

Here's What We Know

AMD CEO Lisa Su said that China is an "important" market. Also, the semiconductor giant wants to be fully compliant with US export controls.

AMD is also preparing to ramp up production of its MI300 chip, which the company is positioning as a competitor to Nvidia's GPUs used for AI training. The tech giant expects this to help it ramp up its data centre business by the end of the year.

According to Su, AMD expects about 50% growth in the second half of the year compared to the first half in the data centre segment, including thanks to the new AI chip.
