Boom builds Overture supersonic aircraft - the world's first airliner with a speed of up to 2,100 km/h

The company Boom Supersonics is working on the development of the world's fastest airliner named Overture.

What we know

Boom Supersonics has published a new batch of renders of the upcoming novelty. The future aircraft will get four engines, a redesigned fuselage and fewer passenger seats than previously announced.

The company has built a 1-to-3 scale demonstration model of Overture. It is called XB-1 and will undergo its first flight tests by the end of the year. Construction of the final prototype airliner will begin with a 60 x 30 m steel frame.

The journey from New York to London should take 3.5 hours. The aircraft will have a maximum speed limit of Mach 1.7 (2100 km/h) over water and about Mach 1 (1235 km/h) over land. Boom Supersonics is working with Northrop Grumman to design specialized versions of the aircraft for military needs.
