The Taiwanese-made Teng Yun 2 drone made a record flight over the country's air defense zone.
What we know
At 6:46 p.m. local time on June 25, the drone took off from Jiashan Air Force Base in the eastern part of the island. It circled the air defense identification zone and returned to its flight site on June 26 at approximately 5:00 a.m.
The Teng Yun 2 flight was a record for a Taiwanese-made drone. It lasted for 10 hours and 16 minutes. The aim was to test the UAV's ability to monitor water and airspace near the Taiwan Strait.
Teng Yun 2 is similar to the U.S. MQ-Reaper strike drone. It can carry both American AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and Taiwan-made anti-ship missiles.
