Elbit Systems unveils LANIUS kamikaze drone with NVIDIA Jetson TX2 chip, GPS and artificial intelligence
Elbit Systems has announced a new unmanned aerial vehicle. The model is called LANIUS.
Here's What We Know
The Israeli company's new drone is an unmanned barraging ammunition for covert surveillance. It is designed to operate over short distances. LANIUS can be launched either handheld or from larger drones.
The novelty can reach speeds of up to 72 km/h. The mass of the bomber including the maximum payload is 1.25 kg. Elbit Systems states that the drone can carry lethal and non-lethal payloads, but the company does not disclose more details on this.
LANIUS can stay in the air for about seven minutes. The drone is capable of moving autonomously, but operator control is also provided. A software-defined radio channel or Wi-Fi is used to establish communication with the aircraft.
The hovering ordnance is equipped with an NVIDIA Jetson TX2 processor, which is responsible for the artificial intelligence systems. The AI helps the drone perform GPS navigation tasks, scan the terrain and create a three-dimensional map of the environment in complex urban environments.
