General Atomics tests MQ-9A Reaper drone with NATO Pod payload container for the first time
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) recently tested the MQ-9A Reaper drone with a special payload pod for the first time. It's called the NATO Pod.
Here's What We Know
The test took place on November 23 at Yuma Proving Ground. The drone of an American company took to the sky with the NATO Pod, designed in accordance with NATO standards. The pod is designed to install sensors that provide reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance.
The container was developed by GA-ASI and Sener Aeroespacial (Spain). It is compatible with the MQ-9A Predator and MQ-9B SkyGurdian drones. This unit allows you to quickly install the necessary equipment.
GA-ASI and Sener Aeroespacial designed the container to meet North Atlantic Alliance requirements. It has lightning and bird strike protection.
The American company noted in its press release that NATO Pod will be offered to a number of countries. GA-ASI recalled that the MQ-9A Predator drones are operated by Britain, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. The MQ-9B SkyGurdian is a newer drone. It has entered service in Belgium and Great Britain, and may soon reach Poland.
