Bayraktar Akinci Tested the MK-83 Air Bomb with the GÖKCE Guidance Kit
Baykar continues to use the Bayraktar Akinci drone to test weapons. We recently wrote about how the drone launched a supersonic missile, and even earlier it used the TOLUN bomb for the first time. Now Akinci has tested the GÖKCE guidance kit.
Here's What We Know
Tubitak SAGE presented the GÖKCE guidance kit in 2021. It consists of wings and a tail unit that allows the bomb to maneuver in flight. This technology resembles the American development of The U.S. wants to give Ukraine JDAM kits to turn dumb bombs into all-weather GPS-guided munitions, but uses a laser instead of GPS for guidance.

The laser guiding head is mounted in the front of the bomb. The MK-83 aircraft bomb, weighing nearly half a ton, was used in the test. The Bayraktar Akinci illuminated the target with a laser and destroyed it from an altitude of 6 km.
The guidance kit is compatible with other Turkish drones: Kizilelma and Aksungur. The GÖKCE can also be mounted on BRU-57 bombs for the fourth generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters.
