U.S. started tests of HiJENKS microwave missile
The U.S. Air Force and Navy are nearing the final test phase of a microwave-guided missile that will last through the summer.
What we know
The missile is a high-power, non-kinetic electromagnetic impact weapon (HiJENKS). It will be used to disable enemy electronic systems using microwave technology. The missile took five years to develop.
It will differ from the solutions of the previous generation of HiJENKS with modern technologies. They will make it possible to reduce the size of the rocket and expand the range of possible launch systems. Besides, the rocket will be used in more difficult conditions than its predecessors.
So far there is no information about what platform will be used for the new weapon. It is possible that the basis for HiJENKS could be the AGM-158B JASSM-ER (on the picture) air-to-surface missile from Lockheed Martin. It is designed to engage highly defensible stationary and moving targets outside the enemy's air defense zone, regardless of the weather and time of day.
