Iran wants to buy Su-35 fighters from Russia, originally planned to be sold to Indonesia and Egypt
The Iranian government is in talks with Russia to buy Su-35 fighter jets.
Here's What We Know
Brigadier General Hamid Vahedi, the Commander of the Iranian Armed Forces, told this to the Iranian news agency Borna. We are talking about 21 Su-35 fighters. Egypt and Indonesia initially wanted to buy them. Because of the threat of sanctions the sales were cancelled. Presumably, the Iranian pilots are already learning to fly the Russian planes, but there is no exact decision on the sale yet.
Flashback
We would remind you that the Su-35 is a Russian super maneuverable fighter with 4th generation thrust vectoring. It was developed by Sukhoi Design Bureau in 2008 as an improved version of the Su-27. The aircraft crew consists of one person. The Su-35 is capable of flying at up to 2,500 km/h. Approximate cost of one fighter is $18 000 000.
