BAE Systems begins modernization of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles for the Netherlands, which will receive improved protection and the Rafael Spike-LR missile defense system

The Swedish company BAE Systems Hägglund has shown the first upgraded CV90 infantry fighting vehicle for the Dutch armed forces.

Here's What We Know

This was revealed by the country's Ministry of Defense. The first vehicle was created for testing and verification of systems before the start of mass modernization. In total, the Netherlands wants to improve 122 vehicles. By the way, modernization of the CV90 will extend the service life of the BMP until 2039.

The upgraded vehicles will receive improved protection, turret and ergonomics in general. The CV90s will also boast a new fire control system and launchers for Israel's Rafael Spike-LR anti-tank guided missile system.

Flashback

Development of the CV90 BMPs has been underway since 1984 by Hägglund, owned by British BAE Systems, for the Swedish Army, and production of the vehicles began in 1993. Since then about 1170 BMPs in different versions were produced.
