Japan plans to arm hypersonic missiles by 2030

We recently wrote that by 2029, the U.S. will equip the USS Zumwalt and the Virginia with hypersonic missiles. Japan is also considering arming itself with hypersonic missiles.

Here's What We Know

The government of the Land of the Rising Sun says that Japan should not only be able to intercept enemy missiles, but also to launch retaliatory strikes. The statement is related to the missile progress of China and North Korea, which regularly launches missiles toward Japan and South Korea.

Tokyo intends to revise its national defense strategy and wants to have hypersonic weapons by the end of the decade. At the same time, Japan is also considering other options to strengthen national defense capabilities.

For example, in late October it became known that Japan plans to buy American Tomahawk cruise missiles. Japan's Type 12 missile will also be upgraded. It will be able to hit targets at a distance of more than 1,000 km. Now the range is about 200 km.
