Qualcomm, Vodafone and Thales introduced iSIM: a technology that allows you to integrate a SIM card into a processor
Qualcomm, together with Vodafone and Thales held an event in Europe where she demonstrated iSIM.
What it is
iSIM is a technology that allows you to integrate a SIM card into a processor. This solution allows you to get rid of the slot for the physical SIM card, as well as the eSIM chip. That is, additional space appears in the smartphone.
Another advantage of the technology is durability, safety, and the ability to install SIM not only in mobile phones and tablets, but also in laptops, compact game consoles, VR helmets, IoT devices, etc. All these gadgets can be accessed with 5G and LTE using iSIM.
Naturally, the technology is still under development and it is not yet known when Qualcomm plans to release its commercial version. By the way, the iSIM demonstration took place in the Samsung laboratory. The demo sample was the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 smartphone with the Snapdragon 888 5G chip on board.
