Microsoft Stops Development of HoloLens 3 AR Headset
At the end of 2019, Microsoft began selling the HoloLens 2 augmented reality headset. In 2022, the manufacturer was supposed to introduce a new generation model, but decided to close the project.
What is known
Last year, Microsoft lost two dozen employees to Meta. According to some reports, 50 people left the company. The closure of the HoloLens 3 project is due to the fact that Microsoft does not have a working prototype of the device, and management is constantly changing plans, preventing employees from effectively working on a new generation headset.
Another reason for HoloLens 3 to stop development could be the Redmond-based company's collaboration with Samsung. According to Business Insider, the South Korean giant wants to take over the development of the hardware, leaving the software part to Microsoft.
