It's official: BlackBerry's 5G smartphone project is finally closed
Recently online information appeared that the company Onward Mobility, which owns the rights to produce devices under the BlackBerry brand, has closed. Now it has been officially confirmed.
What is known
Onward Mobility has released an official statement regarding its closure:
“We want to thank you all for the great support you have given us since we first launched OnwardMobility. However, it is with great sadness that we announce that OnwardMobility is closing down and we will no longer continue to develop a highly secure smartphone with a physical keyboard."
And this is just a month and a half after Onward Mobility BlackBerry is still alive: this year the company promises to release the first smartphone with a keyboard and 5G support with physical keyboard. Now both the company and this project are finally closed.
It also seems to mark the end of the BlackBerry era. After all, BlackBerry CEO John Chen changed his mind about selling a license to another company.
