New sanctions: Britain banned the export to Russia of technologies that can be used against Ukraine

The UK has announced new sanctions against Russia.

What is banned?

So, now the export to the Russian Federation of a number of technologies and products that "can be used against Ukraine" is prohibited.

“The United Kingdom announces a ban on the export of products and technologies that Russia can use to repress the heroic people of Ukraine. Products subject to the ban may include eavesdropping and surveillance equipment. This will close all existing loopholes to prevent Russia from buying these goods in the UK,” the Foreign Trade Department said in a statement.

In addition, all import duties for products from Ukraine have been cancelled. The tariff measures are part of the UK's broad economic support for Ukraine, including £1bn loan guarantees.

“All tariffs on goods imported from Ukraine will be reduced to zero and all quotas will be abolished in accordance with the free trade agreement. This will give economic support to Ukraine,” the government emphasizes.

“The UK will continue to do everything in its power to support Ukraine's fight against Putin's brutal and unprovoked invasion and help ensure the long-term security and prosperity of Ukraine and its people. We unwaveringly support Ukraine in this ongoing struggle and will work to ensure that Ukraine survives and prospers as a free and sovereign nation,” concluded Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Minister of International Trade.
