Strategy Analytics: Samsung's Global Smartphone Market Share Hits 5-Year High in Q1
Analytical company Strategy Analytics has summed up the results of the first quarter of 2022 in the global smartphone market.
What is known?
Sadly, global smartphone shipments fell 11% this quarter to 314 million units. However, this did not affect the balance of power. The leader is still Samsung, whose share was 23.8%. And this, by the way, is the highest indicator of a South Korean manufacturer over the past 5 years. True, if we take the results for the past year, sales sank by 2.7%.
“We estimate that Samsung shipped 75 million smartphones and led the global smartphone market with a 24% share in the first quarter of 2022. This is the highest supplier result in the first quarter in terms of market share since 2017. This period has been strong for the recently launched flagship Galaxy S22 series, especially for the more expensive S22 Ultra. Meanwhile, Samsung continues to expand the mass market of the A series in several markets,” said Woody Oh, director of Strategy Analytics.
This is followed by Apple with a market share of 18.2%, and this is the only company from the TOP-5 that was able to increase this figure - albeit only by 0.6%.
In third place is still Xiaomi (12.4%), followed by OPPO (9.5%) and Vivo (8.1%).
For now, the global mobile phone market is expected to contract further by around 1-2% in 2022, analysts said. This is due to the impact of geopolitical issues, component shortages, price inflation, exchange rate volatility and the ongoing pandemic.
