Overwatch 2 beta tests will add more maps, heroes and other features

Blizzard has published a blog dedicated to the first week of public beta testing of PvP modes Overwatch 2. The main idea - in multiplayer will be more accessible content that players can experience before release.

Key points from the blog:

  • There will be more heroes, maps and features in the "beta" of PvP. When exactly Blizzard does not specify. Judging by the fact that the developers call the current test "the first technical beta test", the additional content for PvP can be entered not in this "beta" but in any subsequent
  • By the end of this "beta" there will be open matchmaking without restrictions on the field - it will help reduce waiting time
  • Competitive mode will not be introduced in this "beta". First, developers do not want to break up a limited audience into more expectations in matchmaking. Secondly, a few other significant changes are planned for the competitive regime - they are not yet ready for public launch.
  • New and reworked skills are being prepared for support heroes. They have a chance to appear in the current "beta", but most likely they will be delayed until the next test. Blizzard is also creating new support heroes, which will be presented to us later
  • Overwatch 2 is preparing a new table with statistics in the match. According to Blizzard, the old system with medals and the state of "On strike!" led to the fact that players do not correctly interpret the performance of their team as a whole. Now the table shows the number of murders, aid, deaths, injuries and treatment of each team member. In the future, they will also add a number of "softened damage" (for example, thanks to shields or "Anna's Simulator"), refine the appearance and possibly return the display of the status "Under attack!"
Separately, Blizzard mentions some features that are not ready or not ready in the current beta test:
  • menu screens;
  • player profiles;
  • different times of the day on classic maps;
  • gold weapon system;
  • headshot indicator in the murder tape.

That is, says Blizzard, now players see an unpolished version of Overwatch 2 - until the full release, it will look more beautiful and richer in a variety of content.

The current beta is expected to last until May 17, but plans may change. As for the exact date of the release of Oberwatch 2 - we do not have it.
