A fictional Darkstar jet that will appear in «Top Gan: Meverick», looked so realistic that Chinese satellite confused the layout with a real plane.
What else is known
- In an interview with Sandboxx, producer Jerry Bruckheimer explained what happened: "The Navy told us that a Chinese satellite had returned and was on another route to photograph the plane." - he said. "They thought the plane was real."
- Although the future film features many real planes, Darkstar is completely fictional.
- Aircraft enthusiasts note that the Darkstar aircraft in the film is very similar to the real prototype hypersonic Lockheed SR-72, the successor to the Lockheed SR-71.
- The fact is that Skunk Works, the developers of the real Lockheed SR-72, helped develop the Darkstar layout for the film.
- "The reason we turned to Skunk Works was because I wanted to make the most realistic hypersonic plane I could," said Kosinski.
