Nokia X20 gets its first Android 13 Developer Preview
Earlier this week during its I/O developer conference, Google released the second beta of Android 13 to its Pixels. At the same time, a bunch of other Android device makers also launched their respective Android 13 beta or developer preview programs. While the announcement included the mention of Nokia, at that time its developer website hadn’t been updated so we didn’t know what device from HMD Global’s stable would be the blessed one.
That all changes today, and it’s the Nokia X20 that you can now test with Android 13 on board. HMD is referring to the Nokia X001 as a development preview. This means that it’s not yet a beta. So, perhaps there are some issues with how polished this device looks.
Also note that rolling back to Android 12 at any time will require wiping of all your data, so be sure to backup before you attempt trying the Android 13 DP. You should also be aware that such builds may have performance or stability problems. This is why you must backup your data before trying to use the Android 13 DP.
If you really do want to take the plunge, all you need to do is go to the My Device app on your Nokia X20, click on the Support banner at the bottom, and scroll down to Android developer preview. Then after a quick IMEI check you’re good to go. The new build will arrive as an over-the-air update within 12 hours of your enrollment.
If you can’t wait that long, you can manually try and get the build starting from 20 minutes after your enrollment process succeeded, by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates. There’s a preinstalled Customer Feedback app in the Android 13 DP, through which you can report any issues you find.
If at some point you do need to rollback to Android 12, you can request that through the My Device app too.
