US market ready: MediaTek Dimensity 1050 announced
MediaTek has recently announced their newest system-on-chip, the MediaTek Dimensity 1050. This is their first chipset to support mmWave 5G, which is currently in use in the United States. This launch signifies MediaTek's more daring challenge to Qualcomm, as they attempt to enter the U.S. market. The Dimensity 1050 is just one of the company's many 5G and 4G processors that power many phones, including some sold in the U.S.
While Qualcomm's Snapdragon is still the most popular choice when it comes to smartphone chipsets, MediaTek has been slowly but surely changing the status quo. For a few quarters now, MediaTek has actually reached the top spot in terms of market share, dethroning long-time rival Qualcomm. With the launch of the Dimensity 1050, MediaTek is looking to solidify their position as a leading chipset manufacturer.
MediaTek Dimensity 1050 SoC uses 6 nm process and includes 2x Cortex-A78 cores 2.5GHz, 6x Cortex-A55 2.0GHz and a graphic chip ARM Mali-G610. The MediaTek Dimensity 1050 5G's integrated modem is compatible with both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G. It can offer dual 5G SIM card support, 4x4 MIMO technology and carrier aggregation across frequency bands. MediaTek Dimensity 1050 is also the first MediaTek chipset to offer support for AV1 video decoding, allowing for high-quality, low-bandwidth streaming.
With the launch of their new MediaTek Dimensity 1050, MediaTek is looking to solidify their position as a leading chipset manufacturer. This new processor offers a lot in terms of features and performance, and it will be interesting to see how it fares against Qualcomm's offerings in the coming months.
