Apple registered "realityOS" trademark, hints at upcoming AR/VR headset launch
Apple has registered the RealityOS trademark. Earlier, developers found mentions of the realityOS platform in the App Store logs. Thus, the registration of the brand may indicate the imminent presentation of a mixed reality headset. realityOS was registered by a certain company Realityo Systems. The trademark appeared in the registry of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on December 8, 2021. It belongs to the categories "peripheral devices", "software", and also "wearable computing equipment".
Large corporations have previously resorted to the use of one-time companies for trademark registration in order to ensure anonymity. Apple has taken this approach in the past, using Yosemite Research LLC to register macOS update names such as Yosemite, Big Sur, and Monterey. In addition, both Realityo Systems LLC and Yosemite Research LLC are registered at the same address, which implies that Apple is behind them.
There is some speculation that the same shell corporation that has filed for "realityOS" trademarks in other countries, including Uganda and Brazil, might be planning to release a product similar to Apple's Reality Operating System. This logo was filed with the trademark applications, and uses Apple's official font.
