Analyst claims PlayStation VR2 could launch in early 2023

Well-known insider and analyst at TF International Securities investment company Ming-Chi Kuo gave a fresh prediction about the future of the PlayStation VR2 helmet. Judging by his data, the headset will be released in the first half of 2023, although he did not name the exact dates. This will depend on the development of compatible games.

Kuo said that the mass production of PlayStation VR2 will start in the second half of this year, about one and a half million units will be produced. The expert believes that the appearance of a new helmet will accelerate the development of AAA-level VR games, such as Horizon Call of the Mountain, which will lead to the growth of VR entertainment. It is planned to release more than 20 exclusive projects at the headset launch. This aligns with early leaks that the helmet won't come out this year.

The most notable hardware upgrade for the PlayStation VR 2 is the inclusion of cameras built into the headset, something that the original PlayStation VR didn’t have. While the original PSVR used a PlayStation Camera attached to the PS4 to track head movement by following LED lights on the headset, PSVR 2 will instead feature cameras on the headset itself. PS VR2 adopts six optical modules (four 720p IR cameras and two eye-tracking cameras. Genius is the leading lens supplier. In addition, Genius is also the primary supplier of aspherical lenses for PS VR2. Other critical suppliers of PS VR2 worth noting include Goertek (assembly), SDC (OLED panel), MediaTek (processor).
