Valve delays Steam Deck dock launch due to COVID-related supply shortages
Valve has announced a delay of the Steam Deck dock station launch. The company noted that it has delayed the release of the accessory due to a shortage of parts and factory closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Valve does not announce a new date, it seems that the release is postponed indefinitely. Valve simply stating it is “working on improving the situation.”
The Docking Station cradles the Steam Deck while providing display, Ethernet and USB connections. It was announced alongside the handheld system, but wasn't available when the Steam Deck first reached customers. In April, it became known that the branded docking station was improved before the launch of Steam Deck - now it has three USB 3.1 ports instead of the original one.
These issues will not affect production of the Steam Deck itself, with Valve explaining that both products are made with different parts in different factories.
