LG released latest Gram ultraportable laptops with 12th-gen Intel CPUs
LG is following in the footsteps of many other PC manufacturers by gradually upgrading its laptop line with the latest Intel and AMD CPUs. The same day as Apple debuted its new M2 MacBook Air, LG refreshed its ultraportable Gram series with Intel's 12th-generation Intel Core processors.
As of today, all six models in the family, including the Gram 15 and both the 14- and 16-inch Gram 2-in-1s, come with Intel’s new Alder Lake chips. Additionally, you can now configure the laptops with up to 32GB of 5,200MHz DDR5 RAM. Also new to the lineup is support for PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD drives, with the entire family offering two slots for storage.
Apart from an internal spec increase, the most significant change to the Gram lineup is LG Glance, which LG collaborated on with Mirametrix. The technology enables a number of new capabilities. The laptop's screen will automatically lock when you walk away and become blurry if someone was looking at your computer over your shoulder. If you connect an external display to one of LG's new laptops, they will also move your cursor to whatever screen you're looking at, which sounds like it would be rather jarring.
The Grams features the same 16:10 aspect ratio as its predecessors, providing slightly greater screen room for productivity activities. The standard versions have a brightness level of up to 350 nits, while the 2-in-1s peak at 300 nits. For less distracting reflections, LG has stuck with IPS displays in all models, although they now come with a new anti-glare finish to reduce unwanted reflections.
LG is also releasing a 16-inch portable monitor in conjunction with the Gram series. The 16MQ70 has an IPS panel with a 2,560 by 1,600 resolution and 99 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, as well as a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 1,200 to 1 contrast ratio. You may currently buy it for $350 from LG's website. The Gram laptop line has been updated today, with the 15-inch model starting at $1,199 and the top-of-the-line 17-inch version costing approximately $1,599 and up.
