The state of Wear OS remains uncertain. With Wear OS 3, Google promised an overhaul, and we anticipate a new Google Pixel Watch running the software. Samsung's smartwatches were the first to use Wear OS 3 last year, but they have now been discontinued for iOS users. This lead us to believe that Wear OS 3 smartwatches would no longer be compatible with iPhone users.

But new information from Wareable disagrees. According to a Qualcomm representative, the recently announced Montblanc Summit 3 is compatible with iOS. We'll keep several grains of salt (for now) since the news isn't coming from an official Montblanc source. The Wear 4100+ is used in the Summit 3.

Wear OS has worked with iPhones in the past, albeit with certain functions disabled owing to compatibility issues. When Samsung introduced the Watch 4 with unified Wear OS, we were told that it would not work with iOS devices because it utilized Tizen features.

Apple's iPhone users may already be flocking to smartwatches from Montblanc and Fossil, which appeal to this demographic as well as Android phones. Samsung could have included iOS support, but it didn't. It remains unclear if the Pixel Watch will work with iPhones; however, it appears that each Wear OS smartwatch manufacturer will have the option of whether their wearables are compatible with iPhones.
