Extreme sports Apple Watch could have a huge 2-inch display

According to reports, Apple's long-rumored extreme sports Series 8 Watch could come with the company's biggest smartwatch display to date. The forthcoming wearable is expected to have a screen that measures almost 2 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 410 by 502 pixels, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In comparison with the 45mm Series 7 largest smartwatch currently available from Apple, the new model would offer approximately seven percent more screen real estate. Gurman claims that extra space might be used by Apple to show additional fitness indicators or other information on watch faces at once.

A recent tweet from display expert Ross Young, who stated that the Series 8 lineup would include a model with a 1.99-inch display, corroborates Bloomberg's reporting. Gurman notes that the new variant will have a more shatter-resistant screen, a greater battery capacity, and a sturdier case constructed of metal rather than aluminum. It will also contain the fever detection function previously mentioned as being added to all members of the Series 8 family, as well as improved tracking functions for activities like hiking and swimming. It will not include a faster CPU: Apple's upcoming S8 chipset, which is expected to be announced at some point in the next few weeks, has the same capabilities as its S7 and S6 predecessors.

If Apple follows its usual release schedule, the company will debut the smartwatch at its fall iPhone introduction. Gurman previously said that Apple was working on a "torrent" of new products that it planned to reveal over the next year, including a successor to the original HomePod.
