Nintendo is buying an animation studio Dynamo Pictures and rebranding it to Nintendo Pictures

Nintendo has purchased Japanese CG production firm Dynamo Pictures and plans to rename it "Nintendo Pictures." Its goal with the new subsidiary is to produce visual content using Nintendo IP and concentrate on "the planning and execution of visual content, including CG animation." Dynamo assisted in the creation of Metroid: Other M, as well as anime TV series like Evangelion: 2.0.

As a result, the company is prepping for its Super Mario Bros. film, which was recently pushed back to April 2023. The live adaptation of Detective Pikachu, based on the Pokémon franchise, was a success enough that a sequel is in the works. However, with Super Mario Bros., starring Bob Hoskins, released in 1993 as the last major cinema release, it's been almost twenty years since then.

With movies like Sonic based on Sega's renowned character seeing considerable success, video game-related films and TV series are a current trend. Sony recently released an Uncharted film, and HBO is producing a TV miniseries based on The Last of Us with Pedro Pascal starring. Nintendo could be ready to release more of its material to the small and big screens with its most recent acquisition, which is (hopefully) good news for gamers.
