Asus Zenfone 9 specs, images and prices leaked by Norwegian site

On July 28 (Thursday), the Asus Zenfone 9 will be revealed at a global event, and sources say that pre-orders will begin right away. Because Norwegian retailer Elkjøp has already listed the device with images, a specification sheet, and even pricing, we consider it a sign that pre-sales are imminent. Keep in mind that this page may not yet be complete – because it is not meant to be seen – so certain information may be incorrect.

The Zenfone 9 will be smaller than today's standards, but not as tiny as you'd think. It measures 146.6 x 68.2 x 9.45mm and weighs 165g, which is fractionally less than the Zenfone 8 (146 x 70.6 x 7.6mm and 167g). For comparison, the same dimensions for the Galaxy S22 are 146 x 70.6 x 7.6mm and 167g. The phone will have a 5.92” AMOLED screen (made by Samsung) with 1,080x2,400px resolution (20:9) and 120Hz refresh rate. Gorilla Glass Victus will protect it. The phone will be IP68 certified for dust and water resistance. The front camera will utilize a 12MP Sony IMX663 with dual PDAF.

There will be two cameras on the rear. The main module is equipped with a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor (1/1.56”, 1.0µm pixels) and "6-axis gimbal stabilization" (machine translated), as well as 12MP ultra wide camera with an IMX368 sensor. Of course, the Asus Zenfone 9 will run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which is a true tiny flagship. Three variants are available: 8/128GB, 8/256GB, and 16/256GB storage capacity; and four colorways are planned.

The incoming smartphone will be 4G (bands: 41, 77, 78, 79) and Wi-Fi 6E (ax), with Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and GPS L1+L5, GLONASS L1, Galileo E1+, E5a , BDS , and QZSS. A USB-C 3.0 connection will be included as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack. The battery capacity has increased from last year's version (from 4000 mAh to 4300 mAh). According to the website of the retailer, a 30W USB-C charger will come with the retail package. The fingerprint reader will be on the side of the phone instead of under display reader of the old model

The listing also says the device has a guaranteed OS upgrade until August 2024 (about two years from now). The last guaranteed security patch is marked as "44797," but we're not sure what it means. Based on Elkjøp's pricing, the Asus Zenfone 9 (8/128GB) will cost around NOK 8,000 ($810/€800/₹64,500). The 8/256GB version is 10% more expensive at NOK 8,800 (that converts to €880). The fully-loaded 16/256GB option costs NOK 9,500.
