Samsung Display will make better displays for the iPhone 14 Pro models than for the vanilla iPhone 14
The vanilla iPhone 14 models will not feature ProMotion displays (Apple's marketing term for high refresh rate), according to a recent report by The Elec. The vanilla iPhone 14 (6.1") and iPhone 14 Max (6.7") will employ LTPS backplanes, as well as the M11 material set developed by Samsung. This refers to the collection of components used in the creation of display panels. Apple's iPhones and Samsung's premium Galaxy phones use the M-series material sets, which are reserved for them.
The iPhone 14 Pro (6.1”) and 14 Pro Max (6.7”) will employ an LTPO backplane for the ProMotion feature. They'll also use the M12 material set, which has just been developed. The Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra used the M11 collection, whereas the S22 acquired the previous M10 one. The Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 are expected to be among the first devices to utilize this new M12 material set.
Samsung will provide display panels for all four iPhone 14 models, according to a Korean news source, and it has already been granted an order for 80 million units. LG will also contribute with the production of displays for the basic iPhone 14 and the flagship iPhone 14 Pro Max. These will be produced using the RS-L material set. Last year, LG was producing iPhone 13 panel with the previous RS-K set. The Elec's story does not mention BOE, which had apparently obtained a tiny number of panels but not without difficulty.
