It's likely that Android 13 will be launched in September

The next major version of Android may be released in September, according to the “Android 13 Security Release Notes," which Google published alongside the August 2022 Security Bulletin. The release notes for Android 13 contain "vulnerabilities affecting Android devices addressed as part of Android 13." According to Google, there are 107 CVEs across the Android runtime, Framework, Media Framework, Package, Platform (listed twice), and System.

Meanwhile, the 2022-09-01 security patch level indicates that Android 13 will arrive in September, although this may just be the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) debut. Android 13 devices with a security patch level of 2022-09-01 or later are protected against these problems (Android 13, as released on AOSP, will have a default security patch level of 2022-09-01).

However, it is possible that Google will begin the Pixel rollout before Android 13's final release date of October 1, 2021. Last year, Android 12 was made available to AOSP in early October and the Pixel update didn't start until two weeks later. The release of Android 13 has already earned it a place in history: it began its public-facing Beta Program a month earlier than usual. There were just two developer previews; the first beta debuted one month prior to I/O 2022, while the last beta ended on July 31st with some thinking that Android 13's "Final release" would arrive as soon as August.

As of now, Google has inexplicably not yet released the Android 12 August security update for Pixel phones. However, it is expected that it will be released soon. Meanwhile, Google disclosed last week that the Pixel 6a would receive the most recent Android 13 Beta.
