Apple has reportedly delayed iPadOS 16 to October

Since Apple created iPadOS and split its tablet software from its iOS phone software, both have received updates at the same time. However, if a new report from "people with knowledge of the situation" is accurate, things may change next month. It appears Apple is considering delaying the release of iPadOS 16 by about a month compared to iOS 16. The latter would be released in September as usual for a new iOS version, while iPadOS 16 would only arrive in October.

According to reports, iPadOS 16's new Stage Manager multitasking system is taking longer to develop than expected. That's the main reason of the delay. During the current beta testing of the new software, some developers have criticized Stage Manager for being buggy and opaque, in addition to its lack of compatibility with most iPads. The release of iPadOS 16 will be pushed back a few months due to the delayed launch of new iPads, which are expected in October. It's rumored that we'll see an iPad Pro with the M2 chip, as well as a faster entry-level iPad with a USB-C connection.

For what it's worth, Apple did not respond to requests for comment, but has previously stated that certain features planned for iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 will not be included in their initial versions. So either iPadOS 16 as a whole is delayed, or it debuts without Stage Manager, which is then added in later releases.
